Matthew 5:4
Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.
ref. - Isa 61:2,3 - To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise fro the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.
The things that we have to experience on this world are not always pleasant. And we look at todays scripture and say, "How could Jesus have said blessed are they that mourn?" There are two ways to look at this but only one way is the way of the Lord. Think about something that has been lost or that has caused you to mourn. Now think of how you were able to handle it. Before salvation there was no hope, there was no comfort, there was no positive look at the problem. You were lost in a bunch of torn up emotions with no way out. Now, here is where the blessing comes in. Once you were saved, many of the same things happened in your life that had left you sad and alone before, but there was comfort, there was even a sense of peace. There was a saviour that stepped in and comforted you. It was not a chemical or a discussion, it was something in your innermost being that gave you reassurance of a better place. A time that was coming where those tears would never fall and that pain would cease to exist. But all in all, there was comfort. Just as in if there were no sin there would be no redemption, the same goes for mourning. In the words of a famous gospel song Through It All, "If I'd never had a problem, I'd never know that he could solve them.." we are shown that comfort and answers do come from the Lord. And these are not temporary answers but permanent solutions. Once we have overcome an emotion or come through a problem, we are made stronger and more faithful in knowing that Jesus Christ is the answer to all of our problems, even mourning. So, rather than putting on a worldly attitude of "if God is so good, then why am I so depressed?" put on a Godly attitude of, " I am sure glad that I know Jesus because he will get me through this problem that without him I could not get through!" So, you see! We are blessed when we mourn, for the great comforter will be not far behind to console us if we live a life following and making Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior!!! Have a great day!!!
