Daily Bread 2-7-18

Matthew 5:38,39

38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

ref. - Lv 24:20 - Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again.

Pr 20:22 - Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the Lord, and he shall save thee.

Ro 12:17 - Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

And Jesus, once again supersedes, or replaces. a path that was taken in old times. He shows us the way that we Spiritually face our oppressors. We are listening and learning from a man that has no hate in him and no guile is found in his mouth. A pure and perfect offering to God. Jesus Christ did not have error in him and therefore this is why we must follow him if we want to reach our final eternal destination. A normal, carnal man, would slap back when slapped or lash back when lashed out at, but in Jesus Christ we find that we should not let them take our peace. Our peace comes from Godly satisfaction and not worldly satisfaction. In order to strike back or to lash out we must leave our peace behind and take on something that is no longer ours. Vengeance in the world used to be taken out be us, one on another, but now our Savior says that vengeance belongs to God. We no longer have to concern ourselves with our own defense but, rather, the defense of the gospel. We are supposed to be the proof that what Christ taught, if followed, actually works. We are the living examples of a Spiritual savior. Now, if we turn to our wicked ways, or even the ways of old, we will not have peace. We were not made to follow Moses or any other man for that matter, but we were made to live in faith of Jesus Christ. The only way to achieve this peace and this control is for us to learn of him and seek after him. Our prayer to God will be heard if in Jesus name and accompanied by faith. We can "turn the other cheek" if we have his Spirit dwell within us. If we take care of the great salvation that we have been given, he will take care of us in all situations. Read what has been written, pray for it to penetrate our souls, and become obedient to it, and the rest will fall correctly into place under the will of God. If it seems that it is getting too hard, have no worry brothers and sisters, Jesus lives and he is watching over you and I. We must not look upon the actions and words of others, but upon our own. Let us have our words and action seasoned with salt and filled with the mighty Holy Spirit of God. And let his Spirit have free course in each and every one of us that follow him! Turn the other cheek and be strong!!! Have a great day!!!
